Grandparents' Day fills the National Museum on 21 November 2026

Grandparents' Day at the National Museum of Singapore is Saturday 21 November 2026. Hours follow the museum, 10am to 7pm, last gallery entry 6.30pm. The building is at 93 Stamford Road, west of 武吉士 along Bras Basah Road. NMS published the programme on its Grandparents' Day events page. Singapore Art & Gallery Guide lists the same Saturday window. The day sits next to the Singapore History Gallery, which reopened on 10 October after a three-year revamp.

The museum's own line is simple: come as a family and spend the day with the grandparents in the group. Ticketed workshops need a booking. Free booths, crafts, a talent show and the front-lawn playground do not. Singapore citizens and permanent residents enter the permanent galleries free with a pink or blue NRIC. Foreign adults pay S$18 general admission from 13 October 2026, concession S$13. Children aged 6 and below enter free. The outdoor and atrium programmes still run if you skip the galleries.

Morning workshops you have to book

Hands, Hearts & History is an intergenerational dance workshop in the Gallery Theatre, basement, 10.30am to 12pm. It is free with a S$20 refundable deposit per pair: one senior plus one adult or child aged 5 and above. Register at gpd2026dance.peatix.com. Facilitators start from History Gallery objects, a grand piano, a fishing boat, a rickshaw, and build a short piece. You can stand or stay seated. No dance background required. The tag on the page is #GetActive.

What's in Grandma's Kitchen runs the same 10.30am to 12pm slot in The Salon, Level 1. Tickets are S$30 per pair, same senior-plus-adult-or-child rule. You make two dishes: mee suah kueh, a pan-fried vermicelli cake that started as a home recipe and now turns up as dim sum, and shuang pi nai, Cantonese double-skin milk pudding. You eat what you make and take a portion of mee suah kueh home. Enterprise Singapore is the collaborator. Fish Soup Paradise, Hiap Giap and Nuvojoy sponsor the fish broth, wholegrain wheat flour noodles and double-skin milk premix. All ingredients are made without pork or lard. Buy through the museum's v360 shop, with or without SG Culture Pass. The tag is #GetNourished.

Heritage tradespeople sit with modern hobbyists in small circles. The published list pairs Ho Tit Coffee Powder Factory with home brewer Bartley Brewers, antique shop By My Old School, a traditional potter with polymer clay studio The Shy Crafter, and Jin, who practises traditional Chinese sewing. Refreshments are included. Tickets also go through v360, with a Culture Pass option.

Intergenerational Bingo is 3pm to 4pm in the Gallery Theatre, basement. Free with a S$10 refundable deposit per group of 2 to 4, and the group must include at least one senior plus one adult or child aged 5 and above. Register at gpd2026bingo.peatix.com. The first 10 families to finish a card take prizes. Everyone who completes the game gets a heritage-themed keycap clicker.

Table of Treasures has a timed redemption, 11.30am to 2.30pm, in the Gallery Theatre foyer, basement. Free, registration required, same pair rule. Book at gpd2026table.peatix.com. Marketplace Booths occupy the Glass Atrium, Level 2, 10am to 4pm, with some stalls packing up at 3pm. Ten booths. You can handle objects from the museum collection, pick up Health Promotion Board tips and the Healthy 365 app, and taste samples from Alchemy Foodtech, Home's Favourite, Leong Guan and Sin Mui Heng. Enterprise Singapore hands out goodie bags. Lions Befrienders run pipe-cleaner craft and a stringless Smart Guitar. The page tags this one #GetActive, #GetConnected and #GetNourished.

Our Voices, Our Memories is on The Concourse, Level 1, 10am to 4pm. Six large artworks of seniors' lives over the past 60 years, then a drop-in fridge magnet that puts a past icon next to a present one. Senior artists talk about the paintings from 11am to 11.30am and again from 1pm to 1.30pm. Montfort Care organised the showcase. STAEDTLER supports the craft.

From Kampong to Catwalk, the seniors talent show, is on The Platform, Level 2. Part 1 runs 11.30am to 12.15pm. Part 2 runs 1.30pm to 2.30pm. Wushu, dance, ukulele. One skit follows a kampong girl and draws on the Southern Cabaret nightclub of 1930s Singapore. An Intergenerational Green Runway puts seniors and younger relatives in costumes made from upcycled materials. Lions Befrienders organised this programme.

A Whale of a Tale Playground stays open on the Front Lawn, Level 1, 10am to 7pm. NMS built it as a reworking of the blue whale skeleton that hung in the museum from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Dame Museum Café on Level 1 runs a one-day hawker promotion tied to the History Gallery. Grandparents who order the Teochew Porridge Platter, Kerabu Bee Hoon or Nasi Ulam Rendang Bowl get Fish Maw Soup and lemongrass ginger tea on the house, 10am to 7pm on 21 November only.

From Bugis MRT walk west on Bras Basah Road, about 10 minutes. Bras Basah, Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall drop you closer. P*DA20 in Stamford Gallery closes on 1 November, so it will already be down by Grandparents' Day. The History Gallery is the room that will still be there. Subscribe to the museum list at form.gov.sg if you want the next senior-programme mailer. Cashless payment only at the ticket desk since 14 September 2026.
