Light Together Bras Basah.Bugis 2026: Local Folklore Comes Alive After Dark
From 1 August to 5 September 2026, the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct transforms into a night-time experience called Light Together Bras Basah.Bugis (LTB). Organised by HeritageSG and held in conjunction with the Singapore Night Festival 2026, the event uses light installations, digital art, and local folklore to turn historical buildings and hidden spaces into experiential zones.
It is a new kind of National Day night out. Instead of watching fireworks from a distance, visitors walk through five locations across the precinct, each telling a Singapore story through light and sound.
Five Locations, Five Stories
The installations are spread across five sites, all walkable from Bras Basah or Bugis MRT. Artsplace at Waterloo Centre kicks off the trail with a light projection that draws on Peranakan visual motifs. The Reflection Pool at Bras Basah MRT Station uses the water feature as a canvas for digital storytelling.
Stamford Place and Stamford Walkway connect the precinct to the National Museum of Singapore, which participates from 1 to 12 August only. The museum's facade becomes the largest canvas in the trail, with a projection that references Singapore's oral and folk traditions.
One of the more playful installations is by artist Arup, entitled Better Plant Chilli So It Won't Rain. It references the traditional superstition, practised since the kampong days, of planting chilli to prevent rain. According to the artist, it is something still done today, and the installation invites visitors to think about how old beliefs persist in modern Singapore.
When To Go
The experience runs on a split schedule. Fridays and Saturdays run from 7:30pm to midnight, giving you the full festival buzz until the last light turns off. Sundays to Thursdays end at 11:00pm, which is still plenty of time to walk all five locations at a relaxed pace.
Early evenings offer a more contemplative mood, with fewer people and softer light. Friday and Saturday nights are busier, with food vendors and street performers adding to the atmosphere. If you want photographs without people in them, go on a Tuesday or Wednesday at 8:00pm.
Admission is free. All locations are walkable from Bras Basah MRT (CC2) or Bugis MRT (EW12/DT14), with the longest walk taking about 10 minutes between sites.
Pairing It With Bugis Town
The LTB trail sits within walking distance of Bugis Junction, Bugis+, and Bugis Street, collectively known as Bugis Town. CapitaLand is running its own Bugis Night Lights programme from 11 August to 21 September, with events including a MINISO x Moetch Sanrio Fluff Tea Party pop-up at Bugis+ L2 Atrium, night photo walks with the Photographic Society of Singapore at Bugis Junction, and a 2.4km NAPFA-themed fun run with JD Sports.
You can easily combine an LTB walk with dinner at Bugis Junction and a drink at one of the bars along Haji Lane. The whole circuit, from Bugis MRT through the LTB trail and back, takes about three hours at a comfortable pace.
